Holy Communion

In Communion #NaPoWriMo2017 #GloPoWriMo2017

water into wine,
loaves and fishes:
a feast for all
from Jesus;
the bread of life,
which always sustains:
I need no yeast
but Jesus;
new wine in new skins,
commemorative of blood:
I need no priest
but Jesus;
remembrance and rejoicing,
remorse and reverence,
all glory accords to
Lord Jesus

The Bread and the Wine #NaPoWriMo2016 #GloPoWriMo2016

The bread and the wine,
Reverently consumed,
So we never forget
Your death made us room
In the kingdom of heaven,
In the house of the Father,
With the angelic host
Singing praise to the Master.
In the cup, on a plate,
Simple elements combine
To mark Your victory:
Broken bread, poured-out wine.

An old favourite of mine, originally posted in January 2014, and brought out for Day Six of the National Poetry Writing Month challenge – to write a poem about food . . . so why not the Lord’s Supper?

Passover Lamb

Pass over me and mine
O spectre of death
The Lamb gave of Himself
His blood shields my life
As the scourge marked His body
So He has marked me forever
My debt is fully settled
My life dearly purchased
My soul given up to eternity
Beyond the end of days
So pass over and stay away
You serve no duty in this place
Leave us to break bread in peace
Share wine in solemn remembrance
Breathe life in our thanks
Giving all glory to Him
