freedom

Darkness Falls on Westminster

Pilgrims of democracy
Alight ‘twixt London’s spires,
Cameras flashing souvenir snaps;
Cursed moments pass,
Shattering the peace,
Awe displaced by shock.

A lone wolf paints terror,
No value for life;
A city loses a servant,
A family loses one they loved;
Memory will not relent,
Terror shall not prevail.

French brushstrokes of old,
Cede to current tracks of tears,
Amongst English riverflow –
Equalled in pain,
A brotherhood of suffering,
La solidarité dure

Sun’s light sets, giving way
To sorrowed mourning stars;
Yet Westminster stands defiant,
Bloodied but unbowed;
The Mother of Parliaments
Stands, testimony to the free

Warrior Poets

Leading the vanguard
Of the starving
And outnumbered
Charging the field
And fighting
Like warrior poets
With brave hearts
To show the people
Though the cost be high
The price is paid
And the freedom
They were made for
Has been won

‘We are the Free’ – Matt Redman

‘There’s a fire in our hearts
And it burns for you
It’s never gonna fade away

We are the free!
Yours is the glory!’

‘It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.’
– Galatians 5:1

Bring Back Our Girls

How insecure,
How ignorant,
How weak and cowardly,
Must man be
To brainlessly,
And brutally
Punish girls,
Whose only ‘crime’
Is to grow up
Learning naturally?
To expand and nurture
Minds of their own,
Which only wish
To be free?

Free to live,
And to love;
To grow up
Learning how to be
Educated women;
Proud, independent women,
Born to live,
Born to grow,
Not subject
To man’s yoke
Of evil slavery;
But to be, and to stay
Proud women,
Forever Free.

‘It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.’
– Galatians 5:1
