Today’s Na/GloPoWriMo2016 challenge is to write a poem in the voice of a minor character from a fairy tale or myth. This is my take on the prompt:
Like ‘Verbal’ Kint
I don’t exist
No fingerprint
Nothing to resist
Ignore the whisper
See, it was some other
Who killed your sister
Who felled your brother
You don’t work for me
My crew won’t harm you
Just live for yourself
Do what you want to do
Yes greed is good
It’s ok to hate
Don’t fight your fears
Embrace your fate
So don’t be deceived
There’s no need to resist
‘Cos’ like Keyser Soze
I really don’t exist
“The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist. And like that, poof. He’s gone.”
– Roger “Verbal” Kint, The Usual Suspects (1995)
“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.”
– 1 Peter 5:8-9 (NIV)
