Colleen’s Weekly Poetry Challenge

Sorrow for All

A world made for peace
Accursed by the pride of men
Sacrificed in greed
And the tears of our children
Foreshadow sorrow for all

written in response to this Colleen’s Weekly Poetry Challenge #31 – ‘peace’ and ‘tear’

Indistinguishable

To those without faith
Any prayer sounds like a wish;
Any act of God
Is indistinguishable
From illusion or magic

a second effort written in response to the prompt in Colleen’s Weekly Poetry Challenge #30 – “Wish” and “Magic”, and drawing loose inspiration from the third of Arthur C. Clarke’s ‘laws’ – 2Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.”

No Magic Answers

No magic answers
Wishes won’t make it come true
Harsh realities
But prayerful intercession
Brings us all closer to God

written in response to the prompt in Colleen’s Weekly Poetry Challenge #30 – “Wish” and “Magic”

Love and Justice

His love and justice,
Both soft and hard sides of God:
Sacrifice; judgement –
Salvation through faith by grace,
Yet all are held to account

A tanka written in response to Colleen’s Weekly Poetry Challenge #28 – “Hard” and “Soft”

The Masked Face

Even in laughter
The heart may ache and cry out,
A masked face rejoice;
Yet sorrow’s dulled eyes peer through –
Tears of grief or pain, not joy

a tanka written in response to Colleen’s Weekly Poetry Challenge #28 – “laugh” and “cry”, and drawing in part on Proverbs 14:13
