Run the Great Race

Ronovan Writes Haiku Challenge

Don’t be one who creeps,
But rather run the great race –
Faithfully, always

written in response to this week’s prompt at RonovanWrites Weekly Haiku Poetry Challenge – “creep & race”, and inspired by 2 Timothy 3:6 and 4:6-8

Overcoming sin
So man’s reach exceeds his grasp –
Jesus is the bridge

Jesus the Bridegroom – a prayer for 9th October 2016

God of wonder and of joy: grace comes from you, and you alone are the source of life and love. The living water you offer becomes in us a spring of water welling up to eternal life. Without you, we cannot please you; without your love, our deeds are worth nothing. Send your Holy Spirit, we pray, and pour into our hearts your most excellent gift of love, that we may worship you now with thankful hearts, in Spirit and truth. May we serve you always with willing minds through Jesus Christ our Lord.

You have offered to join us to you forever; in righteousness and justice; in love and compassion; in faithfulness, and we acknowledge you as our Lord. Lord, as you love us, comfort and protect us, so, we commit to honouring you, and no other.

Help us to remain focused on you to know the truth and depth of your love, to resist the trials and temptations of this life, the idols of this modern world, and to be faithful to you all of our days, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer,

God, our refuge and strength, our help in times of trouble, we pray for those whose lives have been devastated by Hurricane Matthew. Comfort those who mourn the lost and protect those who struggle to continue through the destruction and outbreak of disease. Have mercy on the lands where the earth has given way; have mercy on the lands where the weather has destroyed livelihoods; prosper those who aid the suffering, rebuild houses, and strengthen those who rebuild hope so that entire communities may face the future without fear.

Guide the leaders ours and of all nations, that justice may prevail throughout the world.

Lord help us to love you in sickness and in health. We come to You with hearts that are holding the people we love who are struggling, those close to us who are sick, those who are grieving, and those in need of Your healing. We pray for members of our church and families who suffer today.

Lord help us to love and to cherish, you and our neighbours ’til death calls us home. Hear us, Lord of life: we know that you comfort those who mourn, and lift to you all known to us who are grieving at this time, or whose anniversaries of loss fall at this time.

Father, to you be glory and honour forever; hear our prayers, in Jesus’ name, and for his sake,

Amen
