I Remember #NaPoWriMo2016 #GloPoWriMo2016

Today’s Na/GloPoWriMo2016 challenge is to write a poem based on things you remember.

I remember a voice in my cradle
My mother singing to me
“Rosetta are you better”
A low-scoring chart harmony

I remember the voice in the garden
Scolding in ignominy
I remember the faces of friends
Downcast, embarrassed for me

I remember youthful successes
Mother’s smiles beaming at me
I remember the pride of a father
And my own invincible glee

I remember growing assertion
Resistance, desire to be “free”
I remember reactive rebellion
Learning “how to be me”

I remember irascible folly
How the hurts rebounded on me
I remember lessons not learned
Why weren’t they plain to see?

I remember the dreams I once had
How they were taken from me
I forgave my dream-thief long ago
Accepted the hand life decreed

I remember meeting my Saviour
Why would He set me free?
I remember the doubts and the failures
But that’s not my true identity

I remember the wild rollercoaster
I remember a storm-driven sea
But most of all I remember
My God will always love me
