A historic American spiritual song. The earliest known recording was in 1909, by the Fisk Jubilee Singers of Fisk University. It is also the unofficial anthem of the English Rugby team.
Swing low, sweet chariot
Coming forth to carry me home,
Swing low, sweet chariot,
Coming forth to carry me home.
I looked over Jordan, and what did I see
Coming forth to carry me home?
A band of angels coming after me,
Coming forth to carry me home.
Chorus
Sometimes I’m up, and sometimes I’m down,
(Coming forth to carry me home)
But still my soul feels heavenly bound.
(Coming forth to carry me home)
Chorus
The brightest day that I can say,
Coming forth to carry me home)
When Jesus washed my sins away.
(Coming forth to carry me home)
Chorus
If I get there before you do,
(Coming forth to carry me home)
I’ll cut a hole and pull you through.
(Coming forth to carry me home)
Chorus
If you get there before I do,
(Coming forth to carry me home)
Tell all my friends I’m coming too.
(Coming forth to carry me home)
Chorus
Love that old spiritual. It’s a great reminder that we are all slaves to sin, but our final freedom comes after death into eternal life in heaven.

England kick off the rugby union world cup playing Fiji tonight – come on England!
Great song of final complete freedom! Thanks for sharing.
I had no idea it was the rugby anthem–wow!
Usually sung by the fans in the stadium during the match rather than before it – a lot if England are doing well!
